Despite more of the world waking up to disruption and collapse, and even experiencing it, does it still feel lonely at times to live with your understanding of what’s happening?
There are many strange ways of understanding what’s happening, which serve factional interests and prejudices (something I call ‘collapsis’).
Then there are people who seem to have adjusted to this upsetting situation by prioritising being nice to their online connections and not getting into difficult activities like resisting oppression or addressing their own impacts in the world.
But if we feel alienated we won’t be as present to possibility as we could be. And we won’t enjoy the capabilities and blessings that we still have. So, if you want to enjoy being curious, radical and fully engaged in this metacritical era of collapse, I’m inviting you to join a small community of likeminds.
Starting September 1st, each month I will host a 2-hour participatory webinar, featuring a guest with an interest in the topic being discussed. It will occur at two different times on the first Monday of the month, to be suitable for your time zone. The second hour of each meeting will be open for people to share what they are working on, or what is alive for them right now. To enable open sharing, the dialogue will not be recorded.
Topics to be explored in the first months include:
- the future of collapse subcultures and the potential for a solidarity-based politics of collapse
- spiritual aspects of the metacrisis
- the role of art and creativity in finding grounding and balance
- new trends in eco-activism and the future of the ‘deep adaptation’ movement
- the rising propaganda against rights and freedoms and how to respond
- changing our lives to survive collapse, including community development and alternative economics
- the many psychological responses to perceptions of collapse, and how to help each other with that
To participate, you will need to be a paying member of this blog ($8 per month), not just a free subscriber. As a paying member, you will also receive member-only posts to my website that announce, prepare for, and reflect upon, the monthly meetings.
The confirmed guest experts to help us explore these issues with you include Novara Media journalist Richard Hames, author on consciousness Matt Colborn, former coordinator of the Deep Adaptation Forum Kat Soares, journalist specialising in psychology Anya Kamenetz, forest conservationist Rob de Laet, conservation photographer Jessica Groenendijk, and DAF founding member Matthew Slater.
Due to me focusing on organic farming and music, these meetings are the only metacrisis and collapse conversations online that I will participate in at this time. But if there is sufficient interest, then I will increase the regularity of meetings.
We begin on the 1st September 2025. Please join the initiative now to receive your invitation to the meetings. If you know someone else who seems ready for this kind of conversation, please tell them about our meetings.
Thx! Jem
