Peer Mentoring in the Metacrisis – the commitment

The following statements explain the common understanding of participants which motivates us to come together to support each other in peer mentoring groups of the Metacrisis Initiative. If you agree with them, and are a member of the initiative, then use the link at the end to register and be allocated to a group. New cohorts begin every six months. The next deadline is October 14th 2026 for starting in November 2026.

Our common understanding:

By coming to recognise our societies are in metacrisis, we have woken up to the fragility and gift of being alive, and how the habits of our societies are distracting us from what is most important to know, feel and do with the time we have left.

We want to ensure there is regular time in our lives for meeting others who share that perspective, so we can help each other to live as best we can — for ourselves, our loved ones, other people, and the wider environment.

We make an initial 6 month commitment, to meet online at least once every month for 2 hours, in a group of 10 people, after a couple hours of reading and reflecting in preparation.

We recognise that the readings and reflection exercises will be in the realm of personal awareness and purpose in the context of a metacrisis. We also recognise that as a group we could agree, if a consensus, to use alternative materials for prompting our peer support.

We will agree with our peer group participants on the best timing for the meeting, whether to meet more than once a month, and if to communicate via additional means (such as a messaging app).

We agree that our group will have named facilitator and deputy facilitator. We note that the facilitator or deputy is responsible for booking the next meeting’s video system (e.g. zoom), ensuring readings have been shared at least a week in advance, and then reminding participants of the meeting details in the 2 to 3 days prior to the meeting (on email or messaging app).

We agree we will each take responsibility to arrive on time, help our group hear from everyone, be supportive, and maintain confidentiality. We recognise it is our responsibility to leave the group if it does not meet our needs, and then await the opportunity to join a future group.

If one of our participants misses two of the meetings, the facilitator or deputy facilitator will inform them they aren’t in the group anymore, and also inform us at the MMI, so they can be invited to a future group.

The illustrative time zones follow below. If you are a member and logged in to this website, then below that you will see the link to register for the next cohort of peer mentoring.
